Lip flip or lip filler? How each works, how long it lasts, what it costs and who it suits, from the injectors at Spoiled Aesthetics in Las Vegas.

Want fuller-looking lips but not sure where to start? The two most common options work in completely different ways. A Botox lip flip relaxes the muscle around your mouth so your upper lip rolls out a little. Lip filler adds actual volume. Here’s how to tell which one fits what you want.
The short answer
- Choose a lip flip if you want a subtle change, your upper lip “disappears” when you smile, or you want to try something small and low-commitment first.
- Choose lip filler if you want noticeably fuller lips, more shape, or more volume in both lips.
What is a Botox lip flip?
A lip flip places a few tiny units of Botox along the border of your upper lip. That relaxes the muscle there just enough for the lip to roll slightly outward, so more of it shows. It doesn’t add volume. It shows off the lip you already have. A lip flip is a common, well-established use of Botox, but it’s considered off-label.
What is lip filler?
Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel injected into the lips to add volume, shape and definition. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your body already makes, and if needed, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Side-by-side
| Botox lip flip | Lip filler | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Relaxes the upper-lip muscle so the lip rolls out | Adds volume and shape |
| Look | Subtle, natural | Fuller; from subtle to dramatic |
| Typical amount | 4 to 6 units of Botox | Usually about half to one syringe |
| Results show | In 3 to 5 days, settling by about 2 weeks | Right away (swelling settles in a few days) |
| How long it lasts | About 6 to 10 weeks | About 6 to 12 months, depending on product |
| Reversible? | No, it wears off on its own | Yes, can be dissolved |
| Downtime | None | A little swelling or bruising for a few days |
How much does a lip flip cost in Las Vegas?
Botox at Spoiled is priced by the unit, so a lip flip is one of the most affordable injectable treatments we offer. At our current Botox pricing, a lip flip of 4 to 6 units runs about $48 to $72, and first-time clients get $100 off their visit. Filler is priced by the syringe; we’ll quote it at your consultation.
Who a lip flip is right for
- Your upper lip thins out or disappears when you smile
- You want more lip showing, not more volume
- You want to try a small, temporary change before committing to filler
- You have a gummy smile, since the same area is involved
A lip flip may not suit you if you want clearly bigger lips, or if you play a wind instrument or rely on very precise speech for work, since the lip can feel slightly different at first.
What a lip flip feels like afterward
For the first week or two, some clients notice it’s a little harder to drink through a straw, whistle or say “p” and “b” sounds as crisply. That fades as you adjust. Mild swelling or a small bruise is possible.
Can you do both?
Yes. Some clients combine a lip flip with a small amount of filler. The flip shows more of the lip, and the filler adds shape. It’s a good option if you want a fuller look without much filler.
FAQs
How long does a lip flip last?
About 6 to 10 weeks. Because you use your lips all day for talking and eating, a lip flip wears off faster than Botox in the forehead.
Does a lip flip make your lips bigger?
It makes them look fuller by showing more of the upper lip, but it doesn’t add volume. For more volume, filler is the better choice.
Does a lip flip hurt?
It’s a few quick pinches with a very fine needle and takes just a few minutes.
Is a lip flip cheaper than filler?
Yes, usually. A lip flip uses only a few units of Botox.
Can I get a lip flip if I already have filler?
Often, yes. We’ll look at your lips at your consultation and tell you whether a flip would add anything.
